ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The New Mexico Insurance Assistance Program is designed to
help low-income people with HIV maintain their medical insurance
coverage.
The program pays up to $400 per month for the premiums of a
participating client’s existing health insurance. The program
also reimburses the patient’s share (co-pays) for HIV medications
included in the New Mexico Medication
Assistance Program (See Fact Sheet 331).
FOR THE INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
The Insurance Assistance Program is designed to assist people
with HIV who currently have medical insurance and are in danger
of losing their ability to pay health insurance premiums due to
their HIV infection.
To be eligible, clients must:
- Have an updated ACCESS form on file with the Department of
Health.
- Complete and submit an Insurance Assistance Program application
- Have a gross monthly income of 300% of the federal poverty
level or less (currently $2,215 for a single person). Note: You
can find the current federal poverty guidelines on the Internet
- Have cash assets of less than $10,000
- Provide information about their current health insurance
policy and benefits
ENROLLED IN THE INSURANCE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM?
To enroll a client in the Insurance Assistance Program, their
case manager should complete the program application form and
submit it to the Department of Health.
NOTE: This program is intended to help
clients obtain and maintain health insurance coverage. If a client
is in danger of losing their health care coverage because they
can not pay the premiums, case managers should immediately contact
the Insurance Assistance Program manager and explain the situation,
even if supporting documentation is not yet complete.
