WHAT ARE THE HEALTH

MANAGEMENT ALLIANCES?

The New Mexico Department of Health created HIV/AIDS Health Management

Alliances (HMAs) beginning July 1, 1997. Each HMA is a partnership

of organizations providing HIV/AIDS services.

Using a managed care approach to serving people with HIV, the

Department of Health contracts with one HMA in each quarter of

the state, plus an HMA focusing on Native Americans. People seeking

HIV services must register with the appropriate HMA to receive

any state-supported HIV services. HMAs also provide services through

some federal programs and others supported by private funds.

WHAT SERVICES

ARE OFFERED THROUGH THE HMAs?

The HMA Health Care System offers:

  • Medical Care
  • Case Management
  • Home Care Services
  • Community-based Prevention and Education
  • Emotional and Practical Support Services
  • Housing Assistance
  • Nutritional Assistance
  • Individual Counseling
  • Work Re-entry Programs
  • Acupuncture
  • Massage

Specific services vary at the HMAs. Contact each HMA for detailed

information.

WHAT REGIONS DO THE

HMAs SERVE?

The Department of Health divided the State of New Mexico into

four districts for HIV/AIDS Health Management Alliances. The map

below shows which counties are included in each district. The

Native American HMA may serve clients throughout New Mexico.
